In a collaborative initiative to bridge academia and industry, we hosted second year design students from an interior design school. The objective was to provide them with firsthand experience of our manufacturing processes, understanding the possibilities of acrylic, and exploring the balance between creativity and practicality.
The students went on immersive journey through our factory, guided by our skilled craftsmen and experts, and was able to witness our staff in action from the precision cutting of the laser and CNC router, to the high-definition prints from the UV digital printer, and finally witnessing how products come together in the heart of our operation – the assembly department.
Through interactive demonstrations, the students explored the various finishes and thicknesses of the material as well as discovered its versatility and desirable properties that enable it to transform into an array of products.
A highlight of the day was where the students showcased their preliminary designs to our design department. Eager to learn and revise their concepts, they received valuable feedback on aspects to consider, possibilities of the materials and improvements they can make for a more feasible design.
We not only shared our knowledge but ignited a passion for acrylic craftsmanship. We are proud to be part of their educational journey. The next step will be for the students to finalise their designs and we will manufacture each specific product! Exciting times ahead that ensures a vibrant future for the design industry.
